2 -methoxyethyl acrylate is characterised by a high water solubility (144 g/L). As indicated by its vapour pressure (281 Pa), the substance is rather volatile, and it is hydrolytically stable with a half-life > 1 year at pH 7. However, in the atmosphere the substance has a half-life of 20.4 hours, indicating rapid degradation by photolytical processes. As the substance is readily biodegradable, no persistence in the environment is to be expected. Furthermore, the substance has a low log Kow value (0.9) indicating a low potential for bioaccumulation which is confirmed by an estimated BCF of 3.16. Due to its low potential for adsorption to organic soil and sediment particles (log Koc 0.677 – 1.267), the main compartment for environmental distribution is assumed to be the water phase where it will be rapidly biodegraded.
