Key value for chemical safety assessment

Acute toxicity: via oral route

Endpoint conclusion
Dose descriptor:
LD50
Value:
2 000 mg/kg bw

Additional information

Only one oral toxicity test was conducted with the reaction mass containing mainly 2-chloropropene. The resulting LD50 cut-off value was considered to exceed 2000 mg/kg body weight.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Oral toxicity:

According to the OECD 423 test guideline, the LD50 cut-off value was considered to exceed 2000 mg/kg body weight.

Based on these results, Reaction mass containing mainly 2-chloropropene does not have to be classified and has no obligatory labeling requirement for acute oral toxicity according to the DSD as well as to the CLP legislation.

Dermal toxicity:

As no data were available for this endpoint, the LD50 of the officially classified substances constituting the reaction mass were used. Therefore, the LD50 of 2-chloropropane (1100 mg/kg-default value) and of 3-chloropropene (398 mg/kg) were taken into account to calculate the classification. According to the CLP and DSD legislation criterias established for the mixtures, the reaction mass containing mainly 2-chloropropene shall not be classified.

Inhalation toxicity:

As no data were available for this endpoint, the LC50 of the officially classified substances constituting the reaction mass were used. Therefore, the LC50 of 2-chloropropane (11 mg/m3 -default value) and of 3-chloropropene (2.9 mg/m3) were taken into account to calculate the classification. According to the CLP and DSD legislation criterias established for the mixtures, the reaction mass containing mainly 2-chloropropene shall not be classified.
