Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short-term toxicity to fish

Mayes et al, 1989, GLP, based on OECD guideline 203, Oncorhynchus mykiss, analytical verification of test item conc., 96h LC50 = 28.1 mg/L (95% CI: 22.0 to 34.9 mg/L).

BASF AG, 1988, German Standard Test Guideline, DIN 38 412 L15, Leuciscus idus, no analysis of test item concentrations, 96h LC50 > 21.5 mg/L < 46.5 mg/L, 96h LC50 after pH-adjustment of highest test conc. (100 mg/L): >100 mg/L.

Based on these results DMCHA is considered as acutely harmful to aquatic organisms, however observed effects on mortality at higher test concentrations may be related to elevated pH values.

Long-term toxicity to fish

A long-term study on fish was waived

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

Mayes et al, 1989, GLP, based on OECD guideline 202, Daphnia magna, chemical analysis of test item concentrations, 48h EC50 = 75 mg/L (95% CI: 65-150 mg/L).

Based on these results DMCHA is considered as acultely harmful to aquatic organisms.

Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

BASF SE, 2022, QSAR Toolbox, Trend analysis, test item within the applicability domain of the model, Daphnia magna, 21d EC10 = 0.754 mg/L.

Based on this result DMCHA is considered as chronically harmful (Category chronic 3) to aquatic organisms

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

BASF SE, 2019, GLP, OECD 201, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, analytical verification of test item conc., 72h ErC50 = 3.5 mg/L (95% confidence limits: 3.242 – 3.791), 72h ErC10 = 0.6 mg/L (95% confidence limits: 0.463 - 0.649).

Based on these results, DMCHA is considered acutely toxic for freshwater algae.

Toxicity to microorganisms

BASF AG, 1987, DIN 38412-8, Pseudomonas putida, EC50 = 206 mg/L, EC10 = 137.4 mg/L, EC100 = 402.2 mg/L.

Based on these results, the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
