There are no studies available on the toxicity of Sorbitan monolaurate, ethoxylated (CAS No. 9005-64-5) on terrestrial macroorganisms. In accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5, the assessment was therefore based on studies conducted with the analogue substances Sorbitan, octanoate (2:3) (CAS No. 91844-53-0) and Anhydro-D-glucitol trioleate (CAS No. 26266-58-0). These read across are justified in detail in the analogue justification in IUCLID Section 13.

The key study conducted with Sorbitan, octanoate (2:3) (CAS No. 91844-53-0) was performed as a limit test according to OECD guideline 207 and GLP (Simon, 2012). The test organism Eisenia fetida was exposed to the test substance in artificial soil for 14 days, at the nominal test concentration 1000 mg/kg. No mortality occurred during the test period.

The key study conducted with Anhydro-D-glucitol trioleate (CAS No. 26266-58-0) was performed as a limit test according to OECD guideline 207 and GLP (Harris, 2012). The test organism Eisenia fetida was exposed to the test substance in artificial soil for 14 days, at the nominal test concentration 1000 mg/kg. No mortality occurred during the test period.
