Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance contains chemical groups associated with explosive properties which include oxygen, but the calculated oxygen balance is less than - 200

Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Based on Column 2 of the REACH regulation on standard information requirements (Annex VII), the study does not need to be conducted if there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule. Considering the chemical structure of the substance and taking Appendix 6 of UN regulation for the use of screening procedures to assess explosive properties and the ECHA Endpoint specific guidance (R.7a) into consideration, naphthenic acid is considered not to contain any chemical groups indicating explosive properties. Furthermore the oxygen balance of Naphthenic acids is less than -210 for simple structures, where only an oxygen balance higher than -200 indicates the potential presence of explosive properties. It can be safely assumed that naphthenic acids are not considered to have explosive properties.
