Description of key information

Toxicity to microorganisms:
Results of studies with di-isodecyl phthalate ester (DIDP; CAS #68515-49-1) show that DIDP will not produce toxicity to bacteria at or above its maximum attainable water solubility.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
83.3 mg/L

Additional information

The data used to characterize the microbial toxicity of di-isodecyl phthalate ester (DIDP) are consistent with the data for other high molecular weight phthalate diesters summarized by Staples et al. (1997). These data show that high molecular weight phthalate diesters do not produce toxicity to micro-organisms at or below their maximum attainable water solubility. The microbial dataset for DIDP includes results for one species, Photobacterium phophoreum, and a population of bacteria from a wastewater treatment plant.
