Description of key information

The log partition coefficient for phenyl ethyl alcohol is 1.3.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
1.3
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The result is taken from Givaudan (2010), a GLP-compliant octanol-water partition coefficient study following OECD guideline 117 using the the HPLC method. Another study following the same guideline is available (Givaudan 2004) which determined a log partition coefficient of 0.8. The studies are considered to be reliable and suitable for use for this endpoint.

These values are supported by results from the CRC Handbook (Lide 2008) and a published review article (Sangster, 1995), which both state the log partition coefficient as 1.36. Little information on the test conditions or methods used is available but the values were taken from reliable peer reviewed handbooks and journal articles and thus can be considered reliable and suitable for use for this endpoint.
