All members of the read-across approach share the same backbone. The most extensively tested members comprise the non-chlorinated Pigment Blue 15 (CAS Nr. 147-14-8) and the fully chlorinated Pigment Green 7 (CAS Nr. 1328-53-6), both of which contain the central copper ion and represent the boundaries of the category. Toxicological and ecotoxicological testing of the two pigments did not indicated that the chlorination of the backbone influences the results. In addition, the available tests for intermediate stages of chlorine and/or bromine substitution also showed no differences in test results from the boundaries of the read-across approach. It can therefore be assumed that a combined data set of all available studies is valid for each member of the read-across approach.

Several studies on the acute and chronic toxicity of single Phthalocyanines to fish, Daphnia and algae are available. Overall the data indicate that substances of the Phthalocyanines are not harmful to aquatic organisms in the range of water solubility.

Phtalocyanines were proofed to be not toxic to microorganisms by several studies.
