Additional information

The biodegradation of hydroxypropyl acrylate was measured in two different OECD guideline studies (301 A and D). The Closed Bottle Test showed a degradation rate of 34.9% after 28 days of exposure using predominantly domestic sewage. In contrast, the DOC Die-Away test demonstrated ready biodegradability of hydroxypropyl acrylate after 28 days of exposure using activated sludge from a municipal sewage treatment plant.

Similar results were shown for the structural analogue substance 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate using the same guideline studies. However, for this substance a third investigation showed a clear ready biodegradability. Therefore, 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate was assessed to be readily biodegradable.

Due to the results of the structural analogues and the test results of hydroxypropyl acrylate it can be evaluated to be readily biodegradable.
