Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Acutely toxic for fish.
LC50 (96 h) = 3.61 mg/L (meas.) (Pimephalis promelas, ASTM 1980, flow through)
LC50 (96h) = > 10 -< 22 mg/L (Leuciscus idus, DIN 38412)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The acute toxicity to fish was investigated in two guideline studies using different fish species. The first investigation according to a national guideline (DIN 38412) showed an LC50 (96h) of >10 –< 22 mg/L using Leuciscus idus as test organism (BASF AG 1989). A similar result was demonstrated with Pimephales promelas under flow-through conditions in the key study. After 96 hours of exposure an LC50 of 3.61 mg/L based on measured test concentrations was determined (Russom et al. 1988).

In conclusion, hydroxypropyl acrylate is assessed to be acutely toxic for fish. This assessment is supported by data from the structural analogue 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate.
