Description of key information

Koc values for the cresol isomers range between 22 and 56.

The distribution of o-, m-, and p-cresol between organic soil matter and pore water was determined in batch equilibrium experiments similar to OECD guideline 106. For a clay loam soil Boyd (1982) determined a Koc value of 22 for o-cresol, a Koc value of 35 for m-cresol and a Koc value of 49 for p-cresol. Kopinke (1995) studied the sorption properties of o-cresol in sediments using the batch equilibrium method. He found Koc values of 50 and 56 for coal and river sediment, respectively. According to Litz (1990) these low Koc values indicate that cresols have a low adsorption potential to soil organic matter.
