Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The chemical safety assessment carried out according to Annex I of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 does not indicate the need to further investigate the toxicity to birds.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex X, the study on birds does not need to be conducted for sodium dimethyldithiocarbamate (CAS 128-04-1) as sufficient reliable data are available from the mammalian data set showing no toxicity to mammals for long-term toxicity studies, e.g. repeated dose toxicity.  In addition, according to Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, R.7c  (ECHA, 2017), a risk for secondary poisoning is unlikely for sodium dimethyldithiocarbamate (CAS 128-04-1) as the substance is readily biodegradable and has a low potential for bioaccumulation in fish and earthworms (log Pow = -3.5 to -2.33). Thus, the substance has a low exposure potential for birds and further investigation of chronic avian toxicity is unnecessary.
