-Minor desquamation was observed on days 7 - 14. It became less evident at 10 and 14 days.

Additional information
The key data was generated by the use of a mixture of structural isomers of isopentyl acetate as test substance ("primary amyl acetate", a mixture of n-pentyl acetate and 2-methylbutyl acetate). Adequate study reports were available.
The results of the key studies (skin irritation: 7.3.1.006; eye irritation: 7.3.2.006) are regarded as meaningful to evaluate the potential of isopentyl acetate to irritate skin or eyes due to the molecular similarity of n-pentyl acetate and 2 -methylbutyl acetate to isopentyl acetate (they are all structrual isomers). Structural similarity is regarded as particular relevant for the local effect on the skin. The similarities are described as follows: same molecular weight, one ester group, all esters of acetic acid, only variation in the form of the pentyl residue whereas 2-methylbutyl acetate exhibits the closest similarity to isopentyl acetate as it also has a branched pentyl residue.
It is therefore assumed that isopentyl acetate would give equal or similar effects in respect of skin corrosion/irritation and eye irritation as the test substance.
For the potential to be irritating to the respiratory system no scientific data has been located for isopentyl acetate or read-across substances.
Justification for classification or non-classification
According to Annex I in Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council, pages L353/1081 and L353/547, isopentyl acetate is not classified as irritating or corrosive to the skin or the eyes nor to cause skin sensitisation. The available adequate scientific data is in line with this official classification - the observed effects would not justify classification.
According to the CLP classification scheme, see page L353/547 of the above regulation, isoamym acetate is however is referred to with the supplemental hazard statement code EUH066: Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking.
According to the available adequate scientific data on the effect for eye irritation, effects were not observed at a degree that would justify classification.
According to pages L353/1081 and L353/547 isopentyl acetate has not been classified as irritating to the respiratory system. No data has been located to evaluate this endpoint.
