Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

General advice:

Remove from exposure, lie down.

Symptoms of poisoning may only appear several hours later.

When symptoms persist or in all cases of doubt seek medical advice.

Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Inhalation: After inhalation move to uncontaminated area for fresh air treatment, keep warm, allow to rest. Consult a physician.

Skin contact: Take off all contaminated clothing immediately. Wash skin immediately with plenty of water and soap. If skin reactions occur, contact a physician.

Eye contact: If the product contacts the eyes, rinse carefully and thoroughly with water and seek medical advice.

Ingestion:

Rinse the mouth with plenty of water.

Do NOT induce vomiting.

If the product is swallowed, seek medical advice immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: CO2, foam, dry powder; for larger fires, water spray should be used.

Extinguishing media which shall not be used for safety reasons: High volume water jet

Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or mixture itself, combustion products, resulting gases: In case of fire, formation of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, isocyanate vapour, and traces of hydrogen cyanide is possible. Firemen have to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

Special protective equipment: Firemen must wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

Further information: Prevent fire extinguishing water from contaminating surface water or the ground water system.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions: Use personal protective equipment. Ensure adequate ventilation or exhaust ventilation in the working area.

Environmental precautions: Do not allow to escape into waterways, waste water or soil.

Methods for cleaning up:

Take up avoiding formation of dust.

Fill into labelled, sealable containers.

Dispose of in accordance with regulations.

Handling and storage

HANDLING

Advice on safe handling:

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

Ensure that adequate ventilation and extraction is provided at the workplace.

Avoid formation and deposition of dust.

Effective ventilation is required to remove the vapours formed when processing melts containing Carbodiimide.

Advice on protection against fire and explosion:

Ventilate room well, using suitably positioned air extractors if necessary.

Take measures to prevent the build up of electrostatic charge.

Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.

The ground material can cause a dust explosion.

STORAGE

Requirements for storage areas and containers: Keep container dry and tightly closed in a cool and well ventilated place. Keep away from sources of heat and direct sunlight.

Advice on common storage: Keep away from foodstuffs, drinks and tobacco.

Additional advice: Protect from humidity and water.

German storage class: 11 Combustible Solids

Other data: No decomposition if stored normally.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control parameters: Contains no substances with occupational exposure limit values.

- Respiratory protection: An air-fed mask, or for short periods of work, a combination of charcoal filter and particulate filter is recommended.

Do not inhale the vapours formed when processing melts containing the substance. Respiratory protection must be worn.

- Hand protection: Chemical-resistant protective gloves according to DIN/EN 374 are recommended. Recommendation: contaminated gloves should be disposed of.

- Eye protection: Safety glasses with side-shields

- Body protection: Wear suitable protective clothing.

- Hygiene measures: Keep away from foodstuffs, drinks and tobacco. Wash hands before breaks and at the end of workday. Keep working clothes separately. Change contaminated or soaked clothing. May be harmful in contact with skin.

- Environmental exposure controls - general advice: Do not allow to escape into waterways, waste water or soil.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity : Stable under recommended storage conditions.

Chemical stability : Stable under normal conditions.

Hazardous reactions : Avoid amines.

Conditions to avoid: Keep away from heat.

Incompatible materials - Materials to avoid : Do not mix with amines, strong bases, alcohols or water.

Hazardous decomposition products: Depending on the polymer processed, decomposition begins at processing temperatures of approx. 120°C and above.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Product : Dispose in accordance with applicable international, national and local laws, ordinances and statutes.

For disposal within the EC, the appropriate code according to the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) should be used.

It is recommended that details be sorted out with the waste disposer responsible.

Contaminated packaging : After containers have been emptied as thoroughly as possible (e.g. by pouring, scraping or draining until "drip-dry"), they can be sent to an appropriate collection point set up within the framework of the existing take-back scheme of the chemical industry.Containers must be recycled in compliance with national legislation and environmental regulations.
