According to REACH Regulation, Annex XI, 1. long term toxicity testing is scientifically not necessary for the following reasons:
- no adverse effects have been observed in short-term studies for fish and daphnia, for toxicity to aquatic algae as well as for a long-term toxicity study with aquatic invertebrates at the highest test concentration recommended.
- with a high water solubility (> 2160 g/l at 20.2 °C) and a low logKow ( -3.3) the substance is readily available to the test organisms.
- for animal welfare reasons, unnecessary testing (tests without additional knowledge gain) should be avoided.
