Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Long-term toxicity to fish

Administrative data

Endpoint:
fish, juvenile growth test
Type of information:
migrated information: read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
other information
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: see 'Remark'
Remarks:
Acceptable, well documented study which meets basic scientific principles. Test performance similar to OECD 215, however lethality and teratogenesis were observed. Exposure concentrations of elements were confirmed by AAS. Since results were based on both teratogenesis and lethality of embryo-larval stages, the determined LC1 as given in this publications may be used as a NOLC. This is underlined by the fact, that a good correlation between LC1 and MATC´s of the various metals were observed.

Any other information on results incl. tables

LC1 (28d) = 0.038 mg cobalt/ L

LC10 (28d) = 0.1 mg cobalt/L

LC50 (28d) = 0.49 mg cobalt/L

Control populations, maintained simultaneously with experimentals, survived at frequencies ranging from 83% to 96%.

"The LC1 for cobalt was 38.2 µg/L, and this was in reasonable agreement with an MATC of 48.7 to 112.5 µg/L, which we estimated from results on growth and survival obtained in 30-day tests with embryos and larvae of the fathead minnow. In the latter investigation, the bioconcentration of cobalt was significant at 48.7 µg/L ."
