Available data show that the substance has no adverse effects on aquatic organisms. Further L-arginine has a low potential to absorb to organic material. Since L-arginine is readily biodegradable (it is mineralised rapidly in aerobic systems), has no potential of bioaccumulation beyond natural homeostatic concentrations, is not applied directly to soil and is not expected to be transferred indirectly to soil in significant quantity via disposal of STP sludges or aerial deposition, significant exposure of the terrestrial compartment to L-arginine is unlikely to occur. Therefore soil is not expected to be a compartment of concern. The risk to terrestrial plants is negligible. For this reason and in accordance with REACH Annex IX Section 9.4. column 2 this study does not need to be conducted.
