Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study without detailed documentation
Remarks:
Measurements were conducted with a method recommended in the current guidelines, and sounds of good scientific quality, however some informations are missing to allow full validation

Viscosity of selected water-TFEtOH mixtures at 25°C:

wt.% Viscosity (cP)
0,00 0,8904
9,97 1,061
20,02 1,271
30,01 1,446

70,01 1,865
80,04 1,782
90,03 1,667
100,0 1,722

The results of the present work on TFEtOH alone is also compared with litterature data:

°C Viscosity (cP) Ref.
22,0 1,995 Janz 1972, Riddick 1986
25,0 1,780* Evans 1971
25,0 1,722* this work
30,0 1,543 Murto 1966, Kivinen 1967

* TFEtOH is highly hygroscopic and changes in density are observed when the liquid is not properly stored.

Conclusions:
The dynamic viscosity of trifluoroethanol was measured to be 1.722 mPa.s at 25°C.
Executive summary:

The publication describes experimental viscosity measurements, with capillary viscometer, of aqueous solutions of 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol varying from 0 to 100 %. For the pure substance, the result was found to be 1.722 mPa.s at 25°C.

Endpoint:
viscosity
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Reliability:
4 (not assignable)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
documentation insufficient for assessment
Remarks:
The study was conducted with a non-standard instrumentation, and experimental data are not sufficient to assess reliability.

Temp.:
other: 25.0°C
Parameter:
dynamic viscosity (in mPa s)
Value:
1.74
Conclusions:
The dynamic viscosity of trifluoroethanol was measured to be 1.74 mPa.s at 25°C.
Executive summary:

The study was designed to measure some physical properties of ionic liquids in mixture with molecular solvents. Automated capillary electrophoresis system was used. A result of 1.74 mPa.s at 25°C is provided for the solvent TFE alone.

Description of key information

Additional information

A published experimental study provides a reliable viscosity value of 1.722 mPa.s at 25°C, and is supported by a very consistent other result (1.74 mPa.s at 25°C), despite this second work was conducted with a non-standard instrumentation. The third reference will not be taken into account, as not consistent with the two previous data, and excessively low regarding the scale of viscosity values.

The retained key value will be the mean of the two consistent results.
