Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Remarks:
or specified in description of method (migrated information)
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

In a pretest a small amount of test material was put on a magnesia chute and heated with a Teclu burner. After a short time it started to burn. Without producing an own flame it stopped burning. The test material coaled and became black, expanding in volume.

For the main test the test material was loosely filled into a mould (250 mm long, triangular cross section of 10 mm height and 20 mm width). The mould was filled up two times after dropping on a solid surface.

The 250 mm long pile was inverted onto an inert plate. The pile was ignited at one end with the flame of a Teclu burner with at least 5 mm diameter.

No ignition of the test material was to observe. Therefore no burnig rate could be measured.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The test material sodium mercaptoacetate should be considered as not highly flammable.

Description of key information

The test material does not ignite within 2 minutes. A pre-test does not show auto-flammabilty properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification
