Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Acute Fish Toxicity:

Water accommodated fractions of isomerization naphtha produced a 96-hour LL50 value of 10 mg/L with Oncorhynchus mykiss. Water accommodated fractions of light alkylate naphtha produced a 96-hour LL50 value of 8.2 mg/L with Pimephales promelas. These data are used as read-across to all substances in the naphtha category.

Chronic Fish Toxicity:

Read across has been applied for this endpoint, using the results of long-term toxicity testing on invertebrates (Daphnia). Toxic effects of hydrocarbons are primarily caused by narcosis, and occur in a narrow range of molar concentrations across aquatic taxa; hence, read across between species is justified.

Acute Invertebrate Toxicity:

Water accommodated fractions of light straight-run naphtha produced a 48-hour EL50 value of 4.5 mg/L with Daphnia magna. These data are used as read-across to all substances in the naphtha category.

Chronic Invertebrate Toxicity:

Water accommodated fractions of light alkylate naphtha produced a 21 -day NOELR (No Observed Effect Loading Rate) value of 2.6 mg/L with Daphnia magna. These data are used as read-across to all substances in the naphtha category.

Algal Toxicity:

Water accommodated fractionsof gasoline produced a freshwater 72 -hour EL50 for Selenastrum capricornutum (new name: Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata) of 3.1 mg/L based on growth rate. The 72 -hour NOELR (No Observed Effect Loading Rate) value for Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata is 0.5 mg/L based on growth rate. These data are used as read-across to all substances in the naphtha category.

Microorganism Toxicity:

The estimated 72-hr LL50 value for Tetrahymena pyriformis, one of the most sensitive aquatic microorganism species, is 15.41 mg/L.

Some information for this category has been generated using the models PETROTOX and/or SPARC. The QMRFs for PETROTOX and SPARC are attached in IUCLID Section 13, with the associated QPRF.
