Executive summary:

The flash point of the test substance methyl benzoate was determined according to EU Method A.9 using a non-equilibrium method according to Pensky-Martens. The substance was heated in a closed cup (Miniflash FLPL, Grabner instruments) with a constant rate of 5.5 °C per minute. Ignition was started after every 1 °C step. The flash point is the lowest temperature, corrected for a barometric pressure of 1013 hPa, at which the application of an electric arc causes the vapour of the test substance to ignite under the specified conditions. The average flash point of the test substance at atmospheric pressure was 101 °C determined in two experiments.
