Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

According to Annex VIII 9.2.2.1 Column 2, a study on hydrolysis does not need to be conducted as the substance is readily biodegradable (see ch. 5.2.1).

Additional information

According to Annex VIII 9.2.2.1 Column 2, a study on hydrolysis does not need to be conducted as the substance is readily biodegradable. Nevertheless, there are hydrolysis data available for EMA indicating that according to OECD test guideline 111 the half-life is ~ 2400 days at pH7 and ~ 4800 days at pH 3 (Miller, 1989).

EMA, like other lower methacrylate esters, is stable at neutral and acidic pH. Under normal environmental conditions, abiotic degradation by hydrolysis is not expected to play an important role in the degradation of EMA in the environment.
