Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

Non human data

There are no skin sensitisation studies available for the category streams.Considering data on two components, it is concluded that these streams would not likely be skin sensitisers; so, no classification is warranted under DPD or CLP.

The skin sensitisation potential of 2-methylbut-2-ene (2-methyl-2-butene, 2M2B) has been assessed using the guinea-pig maximization method.None of the twenty test animals showed any positive reactions 24 or 48 hours after the removal of the challenge patch. It can be concluded that 2M2B is not a skin sensitiser to guinea pigs (Shell, 1980). In addition, a review article on the toxicology of n-pentane (McKee et al., J Appl Toxicol 18: 431 -442, 1998) states that n-pentane is not a sensitiser.

Human data

No reports of skin sensitisation due to human exposure to C5 non-cyclics streams have been found and there is no indication of skin sensitising potential of C5 non-cyclics streams.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
Component substances of the C5 non-cyclics category streams 2-methylbut-2-ene (2-methyl-2-butene, 2M2B) and n-pentane - are not skin sensitisers. Thus, the C5 non-cyclic category streams are not anticipated to be skin sensitisers.

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Additional information:

None of the components in this category have been tested for respiratory tract sensory irritation potential.  No specific animal or human data have been found with regard to respiratory sensitisation for any components within this stream. There is no indication that the streams or component substances have respiratory sensitisation potential.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
No data have been found concerning respiratory sensitisation in animals or humans and there are no indications that components within this stream are respiratory allergens.

Justification for classification or non-classification

There are sufficient data on 2M2B, n-pentane and on component substances to indicate that C5 non-cyclics streams are not skin or respiratory sensitisers and no classification is warranted for these end-points under DPD or CLP.
