Description of key information

2-(Dimethylamino)ethyl acrylate is readily biodegradable as shown in the key study which was conducted according to ISO 7827 (comparable to OECD TG 301A and 301E) using the secondary effluent of a domestic STP
In addition 2-(Dimethylamino)ethyl acrylate hydrolyses rapidly into the two products acrylic acid (CAS# 79-10-7) and 2-dimethylamino ethanol (CAS# 108-01-0) which are both readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

The key study was conducted according to ISO 7827 (comparable to OECD TG 301A and 301E) using the secondary effluent of a domestic STP. The result of this investigation showed 96% degradation after 28 days . In addition, an OECD TG 302B guideline study showed an inherent biodegradation of >95% within 28 days testing activated industrial sludge. Based on these results it can be concluded that 2-dimethylaminoethyl acrylate is readily biodegradable.
