Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Adsorption

The estimated low Koc values of the parent compound and the hydrolysis product indicate no significant potential for adsorption to soils or sediments (US EPA, 2008; OECD, 2004).

Henry's Law Constant

A high Henry's Law Constant (HLC) of 238 Pa m³/mol was estimated for methyl chloroformate (US EPA, 2008). However, it rapidly hydrolyses to methanol, CO2 and HCl.

Methanol will not evaporate into the atmosphere from the water surface (OECD, 2004).

Distribution

Following the Mackay Level I calculations, the parent compound will preferentially distribute into the compartments air (84%) and water (16 %) (BASF SE, 2019). With Mackay Level I, the hydrolysis product methanol is expected to predominantly distribute to water (85%) and to a lesser extent to air (15%) (OECD, 2004).
