First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Eyes: Wash with water, seek medical attention
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with water
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek medical attention

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Combustion products may contain carbon, nitrogen and
sulphur oxide together with hydrogen chloride gas, chromium
compounds and soot. A self-contained breathing apparatus
should be used. Suitable extinguishing agents are
water-mist, foam, dry powder and carbon dioxide.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Powder: Sweep up and dispose of by incineration or at a
landfil site. Solutions: Absorb spill using suitable
material and dispose of by incineration or at a landfill
site.

Handling and storage

Handling: Avoid dust formation. If dust is formed take appropriate
measures to avoid inhalation (not specified in French c.a.
summary). Eye protection and gloves should be worn.

Storage: No special precautions.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Residual dyestuff left after dyeing articles is not
recoverable.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: "Not applicable" (French c.a. summary)

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: For quantities involved in accidental spillage disposal at
a landfill site is possible.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance wil evolve NOx, SOx and HCl gases. The
incinerator should be able to remove these and any of the
chromium compounds that may be formed.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance is not readily biodegradable and will be
eliminated by absorption on mud. Dye bath waste water
should not have more than 2% of the substance (50 mg/l).
Dilution with other waste water at the factory should
reduce the concentration of substance in the effluent
discharged to 10 mg/l

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: After application to leather the substance cannot be
recovered.

Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Dyed articles may be disposed of in the manner appropriate.
