Principles of method if other than guideline:
Dried test substance (ca I g) was pulverised to a fine powder, using a pestle and mortar. A small amount of the test substance was tightly packed into a capillary tube to a height of 1 mm. The melting point apparatus was increased until approximately l0°C below the expected melting temperature. The capillary tube was then placed in the apparatus and the heating rate adjusted to 1°C/minute until the sample had completely melted.

The procedure was repeated using a fresh sample

The test substance began to darken at 189°C, before melting to a dark brown liquid.

The melting temperature of UK-143,108 was 192.0 to 193.0°C.
