Description of key information

Japanese MITI Test, similar to OECD Guideline 305C, key study, validity 2:

BCF = ca. 0.6 - 4.1 for the group exposed to the high level (0.2 mg/L)

BCF <= 5.8 for the group exposed to the low level (0.02 mg/L).

TBEP would not be considered as bioaccumulable by fish.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

BCF (aquatic species):
5.8 dimensionless

Additional information

One key study is available to assess the bioaccumulation potential of TBEP to the carp (Cyprinus carpio).

This valid study (42 -d bioaccumulation study) was performed according to Japanese MITI Test, similar to the OECD Guideline 305C. Carp were exposed to TBEP at concentration of 0.02 mg/L (exposed group, low level) and 0.2 mg/L (exposed group, high level) under continuous flow conditions. The BCF was determined to be ca. 0.6 to ca. 4.1 for the group exposed to the high level (0.2 mg/L) and to be below 5.8 for the group exposed to the low level (0.02 mg/L). No sublethal effects were reported. Based on the result of this study, TBEP would not be considered as bioaccumulable by fish in accordance with the criterion laid down in EU regulation system.
