Reference
Name:
Dichloro(methyl)(vinyl)silane
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
liquid
Reference substance:
Dichloro(methyl)(vinyl)silane
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Dichloro(methyl)(vinyl)silane rapidly hydrolyses in the presence of water to methyl(vinyl)silanediol and hydrogen chloride. Hydrogen chloride is inorganic and the PBT/vPvB criteria are not applicable. Methyl(vinyl)silanediol was found to be not readily biodegradable in a standard reliable ready biodegradability test. Therefore, the substance meets the criteria for persistence (P).

According to hydrolysis effect, the substance will not bioaccumulate. The hydrolysis product, methyl(vinyl)silanediol has a

predicted log Kow of -0.05 and, therefore, is considered not likely to bioaccumulate. Therefore, the substance does not meet the criteria for bioaccumulation; it is not B and not vB.

The substance is not classified for long-term human health effects. The substance is not classified for aquatic toxicity, on the basis of L(E)C50 values for fish, Daphnia and algae read-across from a related substance. Therefore, the substance does not meet the criteria for toxicity; it is not T.

Conclusion : The substance hydrolyses rapidly in the presence of water; the hydrolysis product methyl(vinyl)silanediol may persist in the environment and meets the P criteria. However, it does not meet the criteria for B or T.

Therefore, the substance does not meet the criteria for PBT or vPvB.
