Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Acute aquatic toxicity studies are available for three trophic levels. The studies on fish and bacterial toxicities have been performed with geraniol, the daphnia and algae tests have been performed with reaction mass of geraniol and nerol (consisting of the stereoisomers geraniol and nerol (E- and Z-isomer). Relevant differences in toxicity are not expected for geraniol and nerol. The most sensitive organism in acute toxicity testing was Daphnia magna with an EC50 of 10.8 mg/l. Based on the growth rate of Desmodesmus subspicatus an EC50 of 13.9 mg/l was recorded. In Brachydanio rerio a LC50 of 22 mg/l was determined.

Chronic aquatic toxicity studies are not available. As there are no indications that the substance may be hazardous to the environment, no chronic tests are provided..

The PNEC calculations are based on the results of the acute toxicity test performed with D. magna. For the sediment and terrestric compartments the equilibrium partitioning method has been used.

The PNEC STP assessment is based on a EC50 of 70 mg/l determined in a study on respiration inhibition in activated sludge.
