PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Tetrapropyl orthosilicate hydrolyses rapidly in contact with water to propanol and silicic acid and therefore the substance does not meet the criteria for PBT or vPvB. Propanol is readily biodegradable and so is not persistent. Silicic acid is inorganic and biodegradation is not relevant. However, silicic acidis the water soluble form of inorganic silicon will enter the natural biogeochemical cycle for silicon, and therefore is not considered Persistent (P). Silicic acid does not meet the criteria for B or T.

Therefore, the substance does not meet the criteria for PBT or vPvB.
