The requirement to test the substance for octanol-water partition coefficient is waived because in contact with water the substance hydrolyses rapidly to form silicic acid and propanol. The log Kow of tetrapropyl orthosilicate has been calculated using a validated QSAR. In another source to which no reliability could be assigned, log Kow values of 1.09 and 2 were reported for the substance. Determining the log Kow of the silanol hydrolyis product , silicic acid is not scientifically meaningful, as it is an inorganic.

The non-Si hydrolysis product, propanol has a measured log Kow of 0.34 (Hansch and Anderson 1967).
