Water solubility:
78 mg/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The requirement to test the substance for water solubility is waived on the basis that it hydrolyses rapidly to silicic acid and propanol. However, the water solubility of the substance and its hydrolysis product have been predicted to be 78 mg/l and 1.0E+06 mg/l (very soluble) at 20°C respectively. In reality, however, the water solubility will be limited by the strong tendency of Si(OH)4 to undergo condensation reactions of the type Si-OH → Si-O-Si; this can lead to formation of a highly cross-linked network (gel).

The non-Si hydrolysis product, propanol is completely soluble in water based on experimental data (Yaws et al. 1995)
