Description of key information

In Annex IX of REACH (Regulation 1907/2006/EC), it is laid down that the choice of appropriate tests on soil organisms depends on the outcome of the chemical safety assessment. According to Annex I of this regulation, the chemical safety assessment triggers further action when the substance or the mixture meets the criteria for classification as dangerous according to Directive 67/548/EEC or Directive 1999/45/EC or is assessed to be a PBT or a vPvB.

The hazard assessment of EDTA-ZnNa2 reveals neither a need to classify the substance as dangerous to the environment, nor is it a PBT or vPvB substance. The substance is expected to have a low potential for adsorption based on its ionic structure under environmental relevant pH conditions and its low log Kow , the low log Kow also indicates that the substance will not be bioaccumulative. There are no further indications that the substance may be hazardous to the environment.

Therefore a short-term toxicity study on invertebrates is not provided.
