PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Persistence assessment:

Based on available data, the test item was determined to be readily biodegradable (99% biodegradation based on BOD; 100% biodegradation based on GC). Test method OECD 301C.

Conclusion on P / vP properties: The substance is not fulfilling the criteria for Persistence (P).

Bioaccumulation assessment:

The experimental partitioning coefficient (log Pow) of the test item was determined to be 2.75 at 20 ºC in accordance with OECD Guideline 107. Moreover, the estimated bioaccumulation factor for the test item was 48.55 L/kg wet-wt (BCFWIN v3.01).

Conclusion on B / vB properties: The substance is not fulfilling the criteria for Bioaccumulation (B).

Toxicity assessment:

Toxicity to aquatic algae, in accordance withOECD Guideline 201: the 72h-NOEC was determined to be 4.2 mg/L (basis for effect: growth rate) and the 72h-EC10 was 15 mg/L (basis for effect: growth rate) in freshwater algae.

Based on the available studies for the short-term aquatic toxicity, the LC50/EC50 values are in the range 10-100 mg/L:

- Short-term toxicity to fish (OECD 203): LC50 (96h) = 14 mg/L (basis for effect: mortality).

- Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates (OECD 202): EC50 (48h) = 34 mg/L (basis for effect: mobility).

- Toxicity to aquatic algae (OECD 301): EC50 (72h) > 40 mg/L (basis for effect: growth inhibition).

The substance is not classified as CMR.

The substance is not T based on criteria laid down in Annex XIII of REACH.

Conclusion on T properties: The substance is not fulfilling the criteria for Toxicity (T).

CONCLUSION:

The test item 2 -methylcyclohexyl acetate is not a PBT or vPvB substance.
