Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The practical experience of the sponsor and the test facility (e.g. water solubility study, ecotoxicity tests) shows that no gases are developed, when the test substance is in contact with water. The test substance is therefore regarded as not being flammable in contact with water.
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The test was not performed experimentally because practical experience exists at the sponsor and the test facility, e.g. when handling small amounts of the test substance repeatedly in air during testing. Moreover, according to the auto-ignition study on test item, 2-methylcyclohexyl acetate does not ignite in air at ca. 20 °C and even not at temperatures up to 300 °C. The test substance is therefore regarded as not being pyrophoric.
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
According to column 2 in annex VII the study does not neeed to be conducted because the substance is a liquid.

Description of key information

Flammability in contact with water: Data waiving (Study scientifically not necessary): The practical experience of the sponsor and the test facility (e.g. water solubility study, ecotoxicity tests) shows that no gases are developed, when the test substance is in contact with water. The test substance is therefore regarded as not being flammable in contact with water.

Pyrophoricity: Data waiving (Study scientifically not necessary): The test was not performed experimentally because practical experience exists at the sponsor and the test facility, e.g. when handling small amounts of the test substance repeatedly in air during testing.  Moreover, according to the auto-ignition study on test item, 2-methylcyclohexyl acetate does not ignite in air at ca. 20 °C and even not at temperatures up to 300 °C.The test substance is therefore regarded as not being pyrophoric.

Flammability: Data waiving (Study technically not necessary): The substance is a liquid.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Flammability: Data waiving (Study technically not necessary): The substance is a liquid.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on experience on handling and use, the substance is stable and does not became spontaneously flammable or emit flammable gases in contact with water, and neither does spontaneously ignite when exposed to air. The substance 2 -methylcyclohexyl acetate is considered to be non-flammable; therefore, the substance is not classified in accordance with CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
