Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The surface tension of quinoline is 45 mN/m at 20°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
45

Additional information

A weight of evidence approach has been developped for surface tension because no valid study is available as primary source.

Values around 45 mN/m were obtained at 20°C. They are consitent with very old literature data (between 1893 and 1917) cited in the publication.

However, it is unknown whether these values were obtained with quinoline as a pure liquid substance or in a mixture with water as determined in the method A5. So it is impossible to conclude if quinoline has surface active properties.
