Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Hydrolysis product lauric acid: Chronically not toxic to fish after pH-adjustment.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Parent compound lauroyl chloride:

No data are available for lauroyl chloride (CAS 112 -16 -3). The substance rapidly decomposes in water and forms HCl (CAS 7647 -01 -0) and lauric acid (CAS 143 -07 -7). Therefore, the long-term toxicity to fish is assessed on the basis of data on the sodium salt of lauric acid (CAS 143 -07 -7) which is sodium laurate (CAS 629 -25 -4).

Van Egmond et al. (1999) performed a juvenile growth study with Danio rerio according to a method described by Crossland et al. (1985). The test concentrations were analytically verified. A 28 -d NOEC for growth rate was determined to be >= 6.4 mg/L and for mortality 2 mg/L. Based on these data the substance and its hydrolysis product are assessed to be chronically not toxic to fish after pH-adjustment.
