With regards to the degradability of OO-t-butyl-O-(2-ethylhexyl)monoperoxycarbonate, a GLP study was performed according to OECD guideline 301D guideline. Under the test conditions, the percentage of biodegradation reached 67% after 28 days and thus OO-t-butyl-O-(2 -ethylhexyl)monoperoxycarbonate should be classified as readily biodegradable.

A hydrolysis study showed that OO-t-butyl-O-(2-ethylhexyl)monoperoxycarbonate is hydrolytically unstable under acidic, neutral and basic conditions with a half-life of less than 6 days under environmental conditions (25°C). 2-ethylhexanol and t-Butanol are the probable degradation products, but only 2-ethylhexanol was determined during tests. 2-ethylhexanol is known to be readily biodegradable and t-Butanol to be inherently biodegradable.
