First-aid measures

After Swallowing:
If conscious, drink plenty of water. Do NOT induce vomiting. Obtain medical attention immediately.

After Inhalation:
Remove to fresh air immediately. Artificial respiration and/or oxygen may be necessary. Obtain medical attention.

After Skin Contact:
Flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Obtain medical attention immediately. Wash contaminated clothing before re-use.

After Eye Contact:
Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Obtain medical attention without delay, preferably from an ophthalmologist.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: alcohol-resistant foam, carbon dioxide, dry chemical, Unsuitable extinguishing media: water

Special fire fighting procedures
This material is reactive with water but the reaction will not significantly increase the fire severity.

Special protective equipment for firefighters
Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.

Further information:
Do not direct a solid stream of water or foam into hot, burning pools: this may cause frothing and increase fire intensity. Cool closed containers exposed to fire with water spray.

Personal precautions
Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Avoid contact with liquid and vapours. Use personal protective equipment.

Environmental precautions
Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system.

Methods for cleaning up
Soak up with inert absorbent material (Kieselgur, Vermiculite, Sand). Shovel into suitable container for disposal.

Handling and storage

Advice on safe handling
Do not swallow. Do not get into eyes, on skin, on clothing. Avoid breathing vapour, aerosol and mist. Use with adequate ventilation. Wash hands before breaks and immediately after handling the product.

Advice on protection against fire and explosion:
Ensure all equipment is electrically grounded before beginning transfer operations.

Storage Requirements
Keep container tightly closed. Keep away from heat and sources of ignition.

Other precautions
If mixed with water, methanol will be formed; Methanol vapors are toxic and flammable so special ventilation may be needed

Exposure controls / personal protection

Engineering measures
Use only in an area equipped with a safety shower and eye wash bottle with pure water. General (mechanical) room ventilation is expected to be satisfactory if handled at low temperatures and covered equipment. Special, local ventilation is needed at points where vapors can be expected to escape to the workplace air.

Personal Protective Equipment

Respiratory Protection: Respiratory protection mask with Filtertype ABEK. At high concentration use respiratory protection with an independent air supply. Wear a NIOSH/MSHA or European Standard EN 149 approved full-facepiece ariline respirator in the positive pressure mode.

Hand Protection: Advise the use of protective gloves made of butyl rubber, neoprene, nitrile rubber or polyvinychloride.

Eye Protection: Face shield

Materials to avoid:
POLYMERISATION - HYDROLYSIS. The epoxysilane esters are not monomers in the usual sense, but polymeric materials may be produced under certain conditions of catalysed partial hydrolysis. Polysiloxanes are produced by polymerisation of the silyl ester group in the presence of controlled amounts of water and alkali or acid catalyst at ambient temperatures. At slightly higher temperatures (ca. 50C), polyglycols or polyglycol ethers are produced via the epoxy functional group under the same conditions of water concentration and acid or alkali catalyst. In as much as both of these reactions are exothermic and may occur simultaneously, the heat evolved ma be cumulative and greatly accelerate the heat of reaction. It is imperative, therefore, that unintentional contamination of epoxysilane esteres with water be avoided and that intentional hydrolysis be properly controlled to avoid hazardous consequences.
