- - From the preliminary estimation, the aqueous solubility was estimated from the amount of sample to volume of water as 33.8 g/L.
- The concentration obtained from flask 1 was higher than that of flasks 2 and 3. This was suspected to be due to the presence of aggregation in the aliquot prior to dilution. As a result, the concentration of flask 1 was considered an outlier. The mean concentration of flasks 2 and 3 was therefore obtained as the aqueous solubility of the test material. - Conclusions:

The water solubility of MEA-LAS was determined by following EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)).
In the preliminary pest, the aqueous solubility of MEA-LAS was estimated by incrementally adding known amounts of water to 338 mg of the test material in a vial. After each addition of the known amount of water, the mixture was shaken vigorously for about 10 minutes and then visually checked for any un-dissolved parts of the sample. This process was repeated until complete dissolution of the sample occurred. The aqueous solubility was estimated from the amount of sample to volume of water as33.8 g/L.
In main test, to minimize the effect of micelles on the analysis, different amounts of the test material was used to saturate 100 mL of water in three flasks. For flask 1, 5.7 g was used for the saturation of the water, 3.93 g for flask 2 and 4.35 g for flask 3. The three flasks were then shaken at a temperature of 30°C in an incubated shaker at 200 rpm. Flask 1 was saturated for duration of 24 hours, flask 2 for 48 hours and flask 3 for 72 hours.
Each flask was then allowed to equilibrate for 96 hours prior to concentration analysis via UV spectrophotometry.
The water solubility of MEA-LAS was determined as 36.6 g/L (pH 8.45), (determined by EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)).
This water solubility test is classified as acceptable, and satisfies the guideline requirements of the EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)).
