Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
bioaccumulation in aquatic species: fish
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation based on log Kow <=3

Description of key information

No key study is available for the bioaccumulation potential in aquatic and sediment species. However, the studies can be waived due to the low bioaccumulation potential in line with Annex IX, Column 2 of Section 9.3.2.

Hydroquinone has a log octanol/water partition coefficient < 3 (0.59), it is not surface-active and it is not ionisable under environmental conditions (pH 4 – 9).

According to the QSAR calculation, the BCF of hydroquinone is 3.162 L/kg. It can be concluded that hydroquinone has no bioconcentration potential in fish. The value is used for the CSA.

Additional information

No data is available. However, in order to be able to use CHESAR for the exposure assessment, a conclusion is provided for the CSA. So, the BCF of hydroquinone is calculated by QSAR model.

The EPISUITE model is relevant for this endpoint and therefore it is used to estimate the BCF of hydroquinone. A bioaccumulation factor BCF of 3.162 L/kg is calculated from EPISUITE 4.00 (BCFBAF v3.00) with a log Kow of 0.59.

According to the QSAR calculation, the BCF of hydroquinone is 3.162 L/kg. It can be concluded that hydroquinone has no bioconcentration potential in fish.
