Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

For the substance as such, zinc bis(2-ethylhexanoate), no aquatic toxicity studies are available. Thus, read-across to the assessment entities soluble zinc substances and 2-ethylhexanoic acid is applied since the ions of zinc bis(2-ethylhexanoate) determine its fate and toxicity in the environment.

2-ethylhexanoic acid:

For the 2-ethylhexanoic acid anion, an unbound 96-h LC50 of >100 mg/L was identified in a reliable freshwater fish study.

Zinc:

For zinc, the lowest reliable 48h-EC50 values for two different freshwater fish species at varying solution pH and hardness range from 0.169 to 0.78 mg Zn/L.

Thus, zinc bis(2-ethylhexanoate) has potential for short-term toxicity to marine and freshwater fish.
