Description of key information

Glycerol is known to be stable in many organic solvents.

Additional information

Examination of the structure of glycerol shows that there are no reactive groups that may give rise to instability of glycerol in common organic solvents. Because of its hydroxy groups glycerol has solubility characteristics similar to those of water. It is completely miscible with and stable in water, methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropanol and other simple alcohols.
