Description of key information

Due to the low aquatic toxicity, the high water solubility and low adsorption potential, hazards to sediment dwelling organisms are not expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No data are available for the toxicity assessment of the test substance to sediment organisms. However, tert-butanol, the organic hydrolysis product of sodium 2 -methylpropan-2 -olate, has a low potential for adsorption to sediment particles (log Koc of 0.32) and it has no bioaccumulative properties (log Kow clearly below 3). Additionally, the lack of any harmful effects in aquatic tests on all three trophic levels at concentrations below or equal 100 mg/L indicate a low hazardous potential of the test substance towards sediment organisms. Therefore, the risk to sediment dwelling organisms is considered negligible and no tests on sediment organisms are provided.
