Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Additional information:

No studies are available for the assessment of the sensitizing potential of sodium tert-butanolate. Due to the corrosivity of sodium tert-butanolate, testing regarding sensitization is not meaningful.

A study is available for tert butyl alcohol which was included as a supporting study (Evonik, 1989). Here, guinea pig maximization test was performed according to OECD guideline 406. 20 female guinea pigs were treated intradermal and epicutaneous during induction and epicutaneous occlusive during challenge. No sensitizing skin reactions could be observed following challenge.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
Study performed according to OECD 406 = not sensitizing

Justification for classification or non-classification

No data are available for sodium tert-butanolate. Based on the study for tert butyl alcohol (OECD 406), no classification for sensitization is proposed.
