Acute tests on all three trophic levels were performed to examine the aquatic toxicity of triisobutyl phosphate. Algae turned out to be the most sensitive species revealing an EC50 (72h) of 14.3 mg/L. Thus, triisobutyl phosphate is considered to be acutely harmful to aquatic organisms. Effects of triisobutyl phosphate towards fish and ainvertebrates were found in the same range providing a LC50 (96h) between 17.8 and 21.5 mg/L for fish and an EC50 (48h) of 24mg/L for aquatic invertebrates.

No data on long-term toxicity on fish and invertebrates are available. The hazard assessment of triisobutyl phosphate reveals neither a need to classify the substance as dangerous for the environment, nor is it a PBT or vPvB substance. Therefore, and for reasons of animal welfare, long-term toxicity studies with fish and daphnids are not provided.
