Materials and methods

Principles of method if other than guideline:
In an abiotic degradation study the pH value and the eqivalents of NaOh to neutralize were used to determine the proceeding of the hydrolsis. From the titration curves the acidic reserve could be derived according to Young (J. R. Young, M. J. How, A. P. Walker, W. M. H. Worth, Classification as Corrosive or Irritant to Skin of Preparations Containing Acidic or Alkaline Substances without Testing on Animals, Toxic. in Vitro, Bd. 2, Nr. 1, 1988, S. 19 – 26.)

Results and discussion

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
Category 1B (corrosive) based on GHS criteria
Tin terachloride has to be regarded as corrosive to skin and eyes.
Executive summary:

Tin tetrachloride is classified as corrosive based on the extreme pH value of 1.6 and the high acidic reserve. In accordance with 67/548/EWG and EC No 1272/2008 a substance that is classified on the base of an extreme pH-value (pH<2) should be classified as highly corrosive (R35, Skin Corr. 1A).
