Description of key information

Tert.-Butylperoxy- 2-ethylhexanoat has no explosive properties because it is not classified as Organic Peroxide Type B (reference CPL regulations 2.15.2.2 and UN Recommendations on the transport of Dangerous Goods, 16th revised edition, Section 2.5.3.2.4. See also ECHA guidance on the application of CLP criteria, section 2.14). Tert.-Butylperoxy- 2-ethylhexanoat is classified as organic peroxide TYPE C.

Additional information

The classification of organic peroxides into one of the seven categories of “Types A to G” is given in decision logic Figure 2.15.1 of CLP, based on the test series A to H, as described in the Part II of the UN-MTC.See endpoint 4.13 Flammability.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Tert.-Butylperoxy- 2-ethylhexanoat has no explosive properties because it is not classified as Organic Peroxide Type B.

Tert.-Butylperoxy- 2-ethylhexanoat is classified as Organic Peroxide Type C with H242 (heating may cause a fire). According to Directive 67/548/EEC (DSD), tert.-Butylperoxy- 2-ethylhexanoat is classified with R2 (Risk of explosion by shock, friction, fire or other sources of ignition) and R7 (May cause fire). According to Regulation 1272/2008/EC, tert.-Butylperoxy- 2-ethylhexanoat is classified only as Organic Peroxide Type C with H242 (Heating may cause a fire).
