Reliable short-term toxicity tests results are available for freshwater fish (Oncorhynchus mykiss), invertebrates (Daphnia magna) and algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) for the registration substance. The relevant short-term values are:
Fish: LC50 (96-h): >0.13 mg/l
Daphnia: EC50 (48-h): >0.1 mg/l
Algae: EC50 (72-h): >0.12 mg/l; NOEC: >=0.12 mg/l
A long-term invertebrate (Daphnia magna) toxicity study is available determining a 21 day NOEC value of ≥0.12 mg/l.
The studies with Oncorhynchus mykiss, Daphnia magna and Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata determined no effects at the limit of solubility of the substance.
An activated sludge respiration inhibition 3 hour EC50 value of >1000 mg/l and NOEC value of ≥1000 mg/l (nominal) were determined in a reliable study.
No sediment toxicity data are available with the registration substance. Data have been read across from structural analogues L2 (hexamethyldisiloxane, CAS 107-46-0) and L3 (octamethyltrisiloxane, CAS 107-51-7):
A 28 day NOEC of ≥2.7 mg/kg dry weight has been determined for effects of L2 on reproduction and biomass of Lumbriculus variegatus (≥4.5 mg/kg dry weight, normalised to 5% organic carbon) (Smithers Viscient, 2016).
A 28 day NOEC of 39 mg/kg dry weight has been determined for effects of L3 on emergence and development rate of Chironomus riparius (89 mg/kg dry weight, normalised to 5% organic carbon) (Wildlife International, 2009).
A 28 day NOEC of ≥70 mg/kg dry weight has been determined for the effects of L3 on survival and weight of Hyalella azteca (Smithers Viscient, 2013).
